How to Row

Rowers practice both in boats on the water and on ergometers, or "ergs" on land. Both types of workouts are essential to the rowing athlete. Ergs are an excellent way for coaches to gauge their rower's speed and progress, and often boat line-ups for races are determined by the times scored on the erg. The motion required on an erg and in a boat are similar. Tyler Shores, a Florida Crew Varsity Rower, demonstrates the proper technique in the slideshow.
