Can't Get Enough?
This web site is merely an introduction to biking culture in Gainesville. And if you're like me, once you start pursuing this new hobby (or practical alternative if you're a strict commuter), it's hard to stop. Below I've listed some additional links and information for your biking pleasure.
- Gainesville Cycling Club
This is a casual group that was formed solely for the purpose of cycling in Gainesville. There are some great resources on this page, as well as supplemental information to the tidbits I've already provided.
-
City of Gainesville's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program
This program is designed to address the needs of cyclists and pedestrians in the Gainesville area. The program fights for things like bike lanes, clean streets, and bicycle awareness. It also has some great links to additional resources for cyclists everywhere.
- The Kickstand
The Kickstand is also known as the Gainesville Community Bike Project. I've already talked about it here. But I put it in just in case you missed it!
- University of Florida Free Bike Repair
Thanks to Student Government, all UF students, faculty and staff have access to free bike repair on campus outside of the Reitz Union on the North Lawn. But beware! They don't always have the parts needed to mend your ride, and it's best to go to a shop for more serious repairs.
- Florida Traffic and Bicycle Safety Education
Program
This is a program at the University of Florida dedicated to reducing cyclist and pedestrian injuries and deaths through educational workshops and publications.
- Florida Bicycle Law
This is a complete list of cycling regulations in the state of Florida. Laws in Gainesville are generally the same, although some groups are working to establish a biker's bill of rights.
- Bike Florida
This isn't a Gainesville-specific resource, but it's still a good one. Bike Florida is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to support the Florida Traffic and Bicycle Safety Education Program.
- Florida Bicycle Association
The purpose of the Florida Bicycle Association is to inspire and encourage people and communities to take up bicycling, as well as to protect the rights of cyclists.
