Freshman 15: Fact or Fiction?

Scale.

Well, actually, both.

You may gain zero pounds when you go away to school, or you could gain twenty or more. Everyone is different. The important thing to remember is that keeping up healthy habits will minimize or eliminate the weight gain.

Hey there.

So you think you don't have time for a healthy lifestyle? You're busy; we get it. Between classes, work, and extracurriculars, you might feel like you hardly have time for a social life, much less for thinking about your health. So you can just let it fall by the wayside, right?

Wrong.

Without proper nutrition, studying becomes a million times harder, you feel tired, you're more likely to get sick, and you may even pack on a few extra pounds. College is an especially hard time for this. (It isn't called the "Freshman 15" for nothing…) You may be away from home for the first time, making your own food choices, and without mom and dad around to see if there’s food in the house, it could be a little overwhelming.

So where to start?

NOSH provides a few simple resources for the college student who wants to make sure they keep up healthy eating habits. Not just to fit into those "skinny jeans," but also for a happier, healthier life.
