Framing is using a subject's surroundings to draw attention to it, creating a natural frame. When you take a photo, it is easy to focus on just your subject, but keep your eyes open and be aware of your surroundings.

This is a photo I took of the Tower of London December 2008. I stepped back a bit and instead of thinking of the trees as an obstruction to the view of the tower, I used them as a natural frame for the building.


This photo was all about waiting for the perfect moment. I saw the sailboat making its way around the lake. I found a nice spot inbetween the trees, made sure my camera settings were good, and snapped the photo right when it sailed by.
