The Sheikra

  • Location: Busch Gardens
  • Year built: 2005
  • Ride duration: 3 minutes
  • *Max. height: 200 ft*
  • Length: 3,188 ft

This coaster is named after the shikra, an African hawk that dives straight down to get its prey. Similar to the hawk's method of hunting, the ride has a 47 degree climb straight to a 90 degree drop.

The first vertical-drop coaster in the U.S.

Not only was it the first coaster in the U.S. to have a 90 degree drop, the Sheikra comes complete with an Immelman Loop, a half loop that goes through a half twist and then curves out so that riders end up going in the opposite direction from which they came.
