Homepage
Official Ubuntu HomepageThe Ubuntu Homepage is a direct source of information of what the distro looks like and basic information of its operating system. Upgrades in the Ubuntu OS can be found here, as well as news updates for the current OS.
- Ubuntu Help
For the detailed information that goes into everycomputer and helps with nearly any installation, the forums site is the first referenced community. This site holds a vast population of users and administrators that can help update, upgrade, or fix any thing associated with Ubuntu or Linux.
Distro
Distro WatchDistro Watch keeps a constant update of the updates in the Linux Distro network. It informs of new OS's and any upgraded OS's. It has a large database of information from many Distros that might peak your interest.
- Fedora
Fedora is my first Linux OS. It has a nice user interface and makes it very easy to install new software. Fedora is has great software that competes with Ubuntu. They too have their own user community to assist in your wonderings. If not Ubuntu, this Distro is another great starter for introduction into Linux.
- Suse
I have only seen Suse and have not used it myself. It is another OS that is trying to make it easier for users to work with Linux. It is fairly new and doesn't not have a large support community by comparison.
- Knoppix
Knoppix is a LiveCD Distro. It is meant to try Linux without installing it. Only recently have they made the jump over to installation capability, though is not recomended. If installation is not a goal for first-time users, Knoppix is a way of testing the water before jumping in.
- Ultimate Edition
Though Ubuntu has a great OS, a user has taken that OS and fully customized it. They have added a much large selection of programs, themes, and anything else. Ultimate Edition is recommended to those who are comfortable with Ubuntu and are willing to go a little further.
