Bat House

Bat House

Over 100,000 bats call the University of Florida Bat House home. The man-made bat dwelling, located directly across from Lake Alice, is the largest of its kind in the United States.

The UF Bat House has become quite the attraction in Gainesville. Every evening, just before sunset, the thousands of bats emerge from their home in search of food. They feed on small insects. A crowd of people normally gather near the bat house to see the spectacle. People of all ages and from all walks of life come to see the bats take flight.

“It really is a sight to be seen,” says UF Senior Tiago Fonseca.

Watching thousands upon thousands of bats fly out of their dwelling is an exciting way to spend the twilight hour.
