Eden Roc Renovations

The Eden Roc under construction

Key International, a Miami-based development company and new owner of the Eden Roc Renaissance Beach Resort & Spa, is overseeing a $170 million construction project. Hotel marketers have billed the renovations as "The Bold New Eden Roc" scheduled for completion in late 2008, according to a company press release.

Architect John Nichols is renovating the Eden Roc's rooms, poolscape, spa, restaurants and retail areas. The guest rooms in Morris Lapidus' original 1956 building will be completely renovated with walk-in showers, iPod docks, remodeled corridors and oversized rooms.

Additionally, a new 21-story tower will house 283 guest rooms with exclusive suites boasting an oversized balcony overlooking the Atlantic Ocean each with a private jacuzzi. A new spa and fitness center will open up as well.

The Eden Roc and Fontainebleau are under construction at the same time, with the Eden Roc's renovations scheduled to be complete in late 2008. The transformations preserve Lapidus' rosewood columns in the lobby, a focal point upon entry.
