Well-known pubs

Doheny and Nesbitt's in Dublin is a traditional pub and serves as a type of club for some of the elite of Dublin. Brazen Head, also in Dublin has been in existence at least since 1688. Durty Nelly's inside of Bunratty Castle and Folk Park also has an older style of pub.

Some other recommended pubs for traditional music are Tigh Neachtain (Naughton's Pub) in Galway City, Gus O'Connor's in Doolin, County Clare and Monk's Pub in Ballyvaughan, County Clare.

At the pub

Due to a recent law, smoking is no longer allowed in pubs and restaurants in the Republic of Ireland. However, Fodor's believes the quality of the food has improved in recent years. Most pubs are open from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. or 12:30 a.m. depending on the day of the week. Pub lunches are considered to be a good buy at about 7 euros.
