Brief background on the Independent Florida Alligator
The Alligator has had a longstanding history with the University of Florida. Originally founded at The University News 98 years ago, The Alligator has been independent and off campus for more than 30 years. Offices are located on West University Avenue.
The newsroom is equipped with 11 computers, a handful of which do not work. The office is located in the relative center of the first floor, surrounded by the Editor-in-Chief’s office, Detours (soon to be The Avenue), Online Media, Opinions, Sports and Production. Editor positions are available to students through an office election. To be eligible, students also must submit an application. The positions of New Media Editor, Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief will be filled by new employees in the Spring.
