Equality, Civil Liberties and Minorities:
Gephardt supports affirmative action.(*)
He favors civil unions for same-sex couples and domestic partner benefits for federal workers. He wants the federal government to recognize civil unions and marriages approved by states so couples can get social security and adopt children.(*)
Gephardt promises to increase special education funding to help students with disabilities.(*)
Economy:
Gephardt believes guaranteeing health insurance for everyone will help the economy by reducing the cost burden on individuals, businesses and state and local governments.(*)
Gephart will repeal President Bush's tax cuts.(*)
He favors increasing the domestic minium wage as well as creating international minimum wages specific to different countries' costs and needs.(*)
Education:
Gephart will increase federal grants and loans for higher education and make more middle-class student and families able to receive financial aid. He also wants to make the first $10,000 spent on college tax-deductible.(*)
He will create a program to recruit new teachers that will provide scholarships to students who perform well and agree to later teach for five years in return. He will also support the creation of public preschools and increase funding for after-school programs.(*)
Iraq:
Gephardt favors involving the UN, NATO and America's allies in efforts in Iraq.(*)
Women:
Gephardt supports a woman's right to choose. He will keep Title IX intact.(*)
He supports health care coverage for contraceptives on equal parity with other prescriptions.(*)
