It was the greatest war in American history. 3 million fought - 600,000 died. It was the only war fought on American soil by Americans, and for that reason people have always been fascinated with The Civil War. However, there was nothing 'civil' about the Civil War, which is also known as the War Between the States. It was a war where neighbor fought neighbor and brother fought brother. There was a painful division of families and friends just as there was a division of the North and the South. Hundreds of books, movies and documentaries have been created about this war and even more are being worked on for the future. With the advent of the internet, scholars now have yet another tool to study every single event in this great period of American history. This site is a simple guide to the major battles of the American Civil War. Please contact me with questions and comments. Battles - Images - Maps - Links - Home |
