Civic Media Center

In addition to housing over 10,000 pieces of education material, the Civic Media Center of 1021 W. University Ave. Gainesville, Fla. devotes three nights out of the week to foster the talents of local musicians and artists. the Civic Media Center provides its venue for the following events:

Poetry Jam-

Pushing the bookshelves to one side, the center transforms itself into a forum for a Poetry Jam session. Starting at 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and at 9:30 p.m. on Thursdays, the center holds an open-mic platform for impromptu performances by anyone brave enough to share their material.

World Beat Fridays-

Disc Jockey Esperanto hosts World Beat Fridays at CMC every Friday night, starting a 9 p.m.. Listeners in attendance can expect to hear beats and melodies from all over the world. Esperanto, who is currently studying African History at the University of Florida, stated on his Web site that he spins "the best in global dance from Latin America, Africa, Caribbean, Middle East and India" for the occasion.
