* The city of Fort Myers named their community college and their largest mall after Edison. Every February, the city puts on one of the biggest parades in the country, it is dedicated to Edison and is called The Edison Festival of Light Parade. This festival includes: science and inventors fair, a flower show, a blockparty that usually has three stages set for musical entertainment, a sing along tribute to Mrs. Edison, a birthday celebration at the estate, a sprint junior run (5th graders run a mile, 4th graders run 3/4 mile, 3 to 4 year olds run 75 yards), a junior parade, "Crafts on the River," which is where the park downtown is the display site for over 100 craft exibitors, a fireworks show, a 5-k run, a Ford V-8 antique car show, and the Grand Parade.

-Edison is known as the father of organized research.

-Edison was nearly deaf due to Scarlet Fever.

-Edison co-designed his houses, had pieces cut in Maine and had them brought to Ft. Myers by boat. The Verandas all ran 14 feet and were sloped so rain could run out.

-Edison called his French-Doors his air conditioner.

-Edison was quoted as saying, to stay young you must learn something new everyday.

-Edison would often stare into space when thinking. The school system felt Edison could not learn due to his 'zoaning out'. His mother was a teacher, so Edison was mostly home schooled.

-Edison loved to"catnap," and had a cot in his laboratory.

-The Edison Ford Estate contains a 400-foot Bannyon Tree. It is the second largest in the world. The largest Bannyon Tree is in India. The third largest is in Hawaii.

-Edison died at the age of 84

-Due to Edison's hearing problem, his wife use to tap Morse Code on his wrist to communicate.
