Although Thomas Edison was born in Ohio, lived most of his life in New Jersey, he had a winter retreat in Ft. Myers, Florida. The home was given to the city by Thomas Edison's wife for educational purposes. The house is open to the public 363 days a year, closed Thanks giving and Christmas. Monday through Friday visitors can take a ride on a replica of Edison's Electric Launch, "Reliance." The ride takes you through the Caloosahatchee where one can revist the river cruises of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. Unfortunately the ride was sold out when I visited.
