Pictures of Rio de Janeiro
In this picture you can see how densely populated Rio is. Nearly 8 million people live in the city, making it huge ! The body of water is the Botafogo Bay. The scenery in Rio is absolutely breathtaking. The city is right on top of the ocean, with mountains and nature everywhere.
Here is a shot of the world famous Copacabana Beach. Songs have been written about it and movies have been filmed there. Even in the winter (which only gets down to about 70 degrees Fahrenheit) people flock to the beach to soak up the sun and play futevolei, a game exactly like volleyball, only the players cannot use their hands, like soccer.
This picture was taken from the top of Pao de Acucar, or "Sugar Loaf." Pao de Acucar is a giant rock that juts 1300 feet in the air. Tourists can take a series of two cable cars, or bondes in Portuguese, to the top. From there a person can see the entire city of Rio, depending on the cloud cover of course !
