The field referred to as "media law" encompasses may facets of the law industry that span across newspapers, entertainment and copyright. Many programs around the nation offer study in this field and often it is associated with the study of intellectual property law.

Media law evaluates the press' role as stated in the First Amendment. From protecting a reporter's rights in a public meeting to defending newspapers in libel cases, lawyers of the field are constantly ground breaking.

While precedent is set on issues of libel, trespassing and public meetings, technology, especially the Internet, continues to bring new questions to the field of media law and intellectual property. Virtually every day a new ruling, agreement or disagreement presents an issue never perceived with the advancement of technology.
