Since the National Guard marched in and martial rule was declared,
the 1954 clean-up of Phenix City has proven that a town can
be turned around. Improvements to the town's image include razzing
the honky-tonks that once existed along the Dillingham Street
Bridge, bringing in the Mead Corporation and building an amphitheater
on the Chattahoochee River across from Columbus's River Walk.
Improvements to Phenix City's River Walk are scheduled for this
year.
