The Man: Jimmy Kunkel

My name is James Adam Kunkel and I am a 21-year-old journalism student at the University of Florida. I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in magazine journalism in August of 2005. I am a hard working, truthful and thorough reporter who never misses a deadline. I have extensive educational background in reporting, editing, management and feature writing. My goal is to gain employment at a nationally circulated magazine as a feature writer.

Ever since I was in grade school I have written stories and essays both for educational purposes and for fun. I have always been in awe of the power of the written word and the way it stimulates the imagination. I am an avid reader of the New York Times as well as the Saturday Evening Post and Sports Illustrated. My main interest is in sports writing but I refuse to limit myself to writing about one subject because it is the reporter’s job to become an expert on all subjects in order to report on the story properly. I have a very creative style of writing and I am not afraid to take chances with my writing if the story calls for it.

I understand the ethical code a journalist must adhere to and I am ready to serve the public interest in any circumstance while managing to protect my publication and sources if necessary. Although my educational background is in journalism I feel that I am fully capable of performing in the public relations and communications side of the industry. I have a great character and I am very personable. I want to help generate respect for my publication not only in the industry but also in communities. I am a moral individual with embedded family values.

I know that I can contribute to my publication from the start and I am determined to prove my merit day in and day out. My father always told me that when I arrive for my first day of work it is best to ask what the biggest problem is and inquire about being assigned to it. That is the kind of worker I am.

Sincerely,

James A. Kunkel
