DOUGLAS BELL - Photojournalism and Graphic Design

My interest in photography began at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Fla where I took several courses in creative art photography with master instructor Ray Hale. I started on a simple manual camera learning the basic functions of shutter speed, aperture and metering as well as operations of the darkroom such as film developing, printing, resizing, dodging and burning. Ray gave us the creative freedom to shoot just about anything we wanted and it was always interesting to see what the other photographers produced during our class critiques.

Later in my education at Santa Fe, I found myself working on more challenging photographic endeavors while pursuing a degree in graphic design. I shot in a professional studio setting photographing commercial products and portraiture to supplement client projects while learning the various techniques of studio lighting.

I am currently working on a bachelor's degree in photojournalism at the University of Florida where I have received additional training in studio lighting as well as extensive photojournalistic work in the field. I had the privilege of learning under master photo instructors John Freeman, Tommy Thompson and Pulitzer prize-winning photojournalist John Kaplan. I have photographed a diverse range of news types including sports, portraits, features, photo stories, documentary, weather, spot news, commercial, photo illustration and special effects. Please take a look at my photo galleries for a few samples of my work. For full contact information please visit my contact information page.
