Probably the best band to emerge from the 1960s psychedelic scene in London was a band named The Pink Floyd. Although their original front-man and songwriter Syd Barret slipped away into an LSD induced madness, the remainder of the band - Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason (along with replacement guitarist/songwriter/vocalist David Gilmore) - evolved into one of the most creative and celebrated bands in the world. Their style, which escapes a general description, ranges from ambient lullabies to dirty blues-rock to musical surrealism. Whatever form their music takes, Pink Floyd's lyrics and style always encompass a sense of art and intensity that lacks in any other band to this day.
