Hello, my name's Amanda Linares. I'm a freelance writer and fourth-year journalism major at the University of Florida, with a minor in English. I'm originally from Houston, Tx., but was raised in sunny Orlando, Fla. Growing up in a family of six being able to have your voiced heard was a bit of a challenge. So, learning how to write and tell stories become my outlet.
Upon entering high school, I learned about the world of journalism.Being able to document history, report the news and communicate people's stories was a world I wanted to become a part of. One of the greatest aspects of the United States is its freedom of speech and of the press. It's our responsibility as journalist to ensure these freedoms never get tarnished and to continue to tell people's stories, bear witness to the truth and to strive to make those around us better.
Besides writing, I enjoy reading, listening to music, attempting to bake and watching old black-and-white movies. Since being at UF, I've gained the knowledge, skills and experience needed to carve my own path toward success. While I still have a long journey ahead and a lot of ups and downs to experience I'll be sure to bring my pen and notepad along the way.
"Journalism can never be silent: That is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault. It must speak, and speak immediately, while the echoes of wonder, the claims of triumph and the signs of horror are still in the air."
