About ChaCha

Chabeli Herrera, 20, a sophomore journalism major at the University of Florida

You must be wondering, Chacha? Like the cha-cha slide?

Yes! Exactly like the cha-cha slide, actually!

I’m Chabeli Herrera, preferably called Chacha after a nickname that has stuck since the first grade. I have the privilege of being a sophomore journalism major at the University of Florida, where I’m inspired every day.

Writing is the central passion driving me along. During my time at the University of Florida, I’ve written several articles for The Independent Florida Alligator, the largest student-run newspaper in the country. I’m an intern for HerMANual, an online magazine based in Gainesville that centers on empowering women and providing dating and relationship advice. You could say this is my field of expertise because when I’m not running around frantically conducting interviews, I run a relationship advice blog in which I try to give men an insight into the labyrinth that is a woman’s mind.

I spend most of my time writing. Whether that be in my journal, scraps of paper or on my laptop; I have to write. It has been a constant my entire life. My observant personality has lent itself to my fascination with people and the relationships between them. With my writing, I try to make sense of the clutter. Bottom line, I love stories, finding them and writing them. And when I’m not writing them, I’m reading about them. Books are my comfort and inspiration.

I love what I do and I love every minute I spend doing it. Take a look around and learn more about me.
