My name is Justin Galicz. I am a 20-year-old journalism major at the University of Florida. I detest writing, but love storytelling, which is why I want to go into the visual aspect of journalism. I have always liked graphic design so I hope to one day design a magazine or the visuals that go in them. I also love teaching, so eventually I want to become a teacher after I've experienced the real world.
I do freelance graphic design work. I know how to use a DSLR and can take pretty good photos. I am still learning coding and videography, but hope to be as well versed in them as I am in other aspects of journalism.
I currently live in Gainesville, Fla., but am originally from New Port Richey, Fla. I have had the opportunity to visit both New York City and Seattle. Although they are very different, I love both and see myself living in one of the cities one day. I just love the big-city feel.
If everything goes to plan I will graduate in May of 2015. I came in with more than a year of credits in the bag, but after some soul searching and hopefully a study abroad trip, I should finish right on target.
I am an incredibly dedicated and determined worker. I'm a straight up perfectionist and hate it when things are not up to my expectations. I like to think I have a creative mind and a good sense for what looks good.
I've gotten to where I am thanks to some amazing friends, some inspirational mentors and my supportive family. I couldn't make it through a day without relying on my friendships to keep me sane and grounded. Without my family's support I would have no steam to continue pushing myself. If I never met the mentors who have steered me through life, I wouldn't be half the person I am today. I owe everything I've done to these groups of people.
