My name is Samantha Doucette and I am a journalism student at the University of Florida. I've been living in Gainesville for about two years, but beforehand, I went to school at Florida State University, Miami Dade College and Santa Fe College. I am a little behind in terms of graduation because I decided to take a year off to focus on what I wanted to study.
I have always known that English and writing are my strong suits, but I had no idea where I wanted to take my career path. Since out-of-state tuition is very expensive, I knew I had to stay in state if I wanted my parents' financial help. After much deliberation, I decided to apply to the University of Florida's college of journalism and communication, not only because it is one of the best journalism schools in the country, but also because of my strong passion to deliver newsworthy information to those around me.
Ever since my enrollment at UF, I have been academically challenged to the farthest limits, which has engrossed me even further into this field that I love. I am very interested in writing about music, particularly because I feel that most of the mainstream music news outlets, like Rolling Stone or MTV, inaccurately and biasedly write about this subject. In the past few years, I have become fascinated with electronic music, and I believe that there are certain aspects of this genre that are extremely under represented and misunderstood.
