What I Did

Last Summer

During the summer of 2011, I went on a two-month-long mission trip with an organization called "Choose To Invest." Choose to Invest is a Christian organization whose main goal is to invest in the lives of students for the summer so that they will ultimately do the same when they return home. This organization takes applications from college-aged students from all over the United States and disciples them under the teachings of the Bible for that period of time. All of the applicants met up in Atlanta for the first time on May 25, 2011. Prior to this meeting none of us had seen each other, but we had previously had conference calls to familiarize ourselves with one another.

Over the next week we would undertake team building exercises to form a bond that would last for the summer (but honestly, they are still going strong).

Two summers ago, in the summer of 2010, I went on a 10-day mission trip with my home church called "Northstar" based in Panama City, FL. During this time our church visited a community in Kenya called Kiu. Kiu is the Kiswahili word for "thirsty". Our dream was to come alongside the community to help them reach their goals while they led the way and carried us alongside them and their efforts to improve their community.

Getting Our Hands Dirty

During this trip I was part of a team that was in charge of gathering thousands of photos and hundreds of video clips to assemble into a piece that will eventually help motivate members in the church in Panama City and help to explain the vision that our brothers and sister in Kenya have of developing Kiu as a whole.

I learned a lot about God and his plans for my life during these past two trips. One verse that I can find rest in is this one:

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus…"
