Books might be my favorite thing ever. I've loved reading for as long as I can remember, with the exception of a brief period at the age of five when I was convinced that I couldn't. I have a very large book collection though, which is both a blessing and a curse. I can almost always find something to read, but don't have a lot of storage space in my dorm room. Although I have many favorites, these are my two all time favorite books.

Ella Enchanted

Ella Enchanted by: Gail Carson Levine

This was by far the favorite book of my childhood. My friend Caley lent it to me when I was eight or nine and after that I could barely ever put it down. It's your classic Cinderella story with a twist. The main character, Ella, was cursed at birth by a well-meaning but rather stupid fairy with the gift of obedience. Whenever given an order, she must do as she's told. Instead of making her docile, her curse makes her rebellious. Her contrariness wins her the heart of Prince Charmont and makes an enemy of her step sister, Hattie. Ella's a wonderful role model for youg girls. She's strong and independent. She does the right thing even when it's not popular or she won't gain anything from it. She sacrifices her own happiness when she thinks it's for the greater good.

Persuasion

Persuasion by: Jane Austen

Jane Austen is pretty much my hero, and Persuasion is by far my favorite of her books. I read it for a paper I was writing in high school and am now the proud owner of three different copies, all of which I've read multiple times. It's the story of Anne Elliot, who while young was persuaded not to marry a handsome young sailor, Fredrick Wentworth. Years later they are reunited. Anne has always regretted her decision not to marry Captain Wentworth, but he seems to be completely over her. But if they can get past the pain they caused eachother, they just might have a very happy future. The novel asks the poignant question of who loves longest after all hope is gone, men or women. Captain Wentworth is my favorite of all Austen's heroes. He seems to be the most real to me.
