Florida Gator Basketball

UF will play Butler University in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Gators received the fifth seed in the East Region and will play Butler at Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The Butler Bulldogs are the 12th seed in the East Region and reached the NCAA Tournament as the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Champions with a 23-7 record.

The Gators finished the regular season in a four-way tie for first place in the Southeastern Conference. They tied with LSU, Kentucky and Tennessee. Florida is one of six SEC teams selected to the tournament of 64. The other five are Auburn, LSU, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas. Arkansas made the tournament because of their SEC tournament win. The SEC is tied for most teams represented in the tournament with The Big 10 and The Big 12.

The Gators made it to the Sweet 16 last season, only to lose to Gonzaga. The Gators hope to avoid losing to an underdog this year. If the Gators make it to the Sweet 16 this tournament, they will most likely play Duke, who finished the regular season ranked third in the nation.

The Gators and Bulldogs will tip-off Friday, with the winner moving on to play Sunday against the winner of Illinois (4) vs. Pennsylvania (13).
