Ward Neff Intern. I compile a daily summary of media-related news. The daily summary is e-mailed to SPJ members. A weekly roundup is posted on the SPJ site. I also provide short items and obituaries to SPJ's monthly magazine, Quill.
The Chattanooga Times and Free Press
Assistant News Editor. Duties included supervising a daytime copy desk of two editors and three page designers. The day desk puts out a daily features section pre-print as well as weekend and Sunday sections.
The Chattanooga Times
Copy editor -- Metro slot. Regular duties included design, layout and supervision of the editing of the Metro (local news) section of the paper as well as final editing of stories and writing headlines. Paginated -- produced pages on a computer -- on a daily basis. Posted stories in HTML form on newspaper's Web site.
Rome News-Tribune
Assistant city editor. Duties included supervising five reporters, coordinating schedules and long-term coverage, editing local stories on deadline and helping reporters polish skills. Other tasks included: planning, designing and editing special advance sections.
County government reporter. Duties included reporting on all political offices in Floyd County, Ga. Also included covering state and federal courts, business and industry, state and national government and writing features as needed.
Police and courts reporter. Duties included reporting on two police departments, a sheriff's department, and a joint city/county fire department, state and federal courts.
Calhoun Times
General assignment reporter. Duties included reporting on education, government, law enforcement, business and community issues.
