Fun for Gators Everywhere
In my spare time, I like to play with Chewbacca, a.k.a. Chewy, my boyfriend's beautiful golden retriever. His name is very fitting too. This over-sized, playful one-year-old gets into everything!
I also love to go fishing. One of my favorite spots is on the Wakusassa River near Cedar Key. On my first cast out, I hooked a five-pound sheepshead. Unfortunately, that was the only one I caught the whole day! My luck's getting better though, and on my most recent trip I caught a 19-inch red fish. Dinner was served!
Better than the Movies
Whitewater rafting is probably my favorite summer time activity. Hearing the roar of the rapids ahead and moving through the same swirling, churning waters where some people have died, (only because they were unexperienced, without a guide and extremely intoxicated or plain dumb--take your pick) can be a great adrenalyn-pumping experience!
Ocoee river is a great two-hour run for all levels of experience, an it's sure to get you hooked on the sport. It was the site of the 1996 Summer Olympic kayaking event. The dam-controlled river always has high water levels--a perfect condition for the best rafting.
For the higher thrill seekers, the Chatooga River Sections IV and V are sure to satisfy all your high adrenalyn needs. It was the site of the action film Deliverance, your personal experience will be even better than the movie (without the psycho-killer risk). It has beautiful mountain scenery, plenty of rapids and a high "flip" factor. Believe me. I've got the experience to prove it. One drawback, however, is that Chatooga is not dam-controlled. That just means you'll have to go when the water level is high.
If you're interested in rafting there are several outfits, such as Ocoee Rafting, Inc. and the Nantahala Outdoor Center, that provide guided trips. Some include lunch or overnight camping experiences. Happy rafting!
