About my hometown

Although I was born in Opp and have lived in five different locations in southeast Alabama, New Brockton is where I call home. I lived there over nine years.

New Brockton business district

Downtown New Brockton has only a few stores.

It is a small town, having a population of 1,250 in 2000, according to the 2000 U.S. Census.

Like many small towns in Alabama, the high school is the center of many community activities. Athletic events for the New Brockton Gamecocks, especially football games, draw the community close together.

The football team is decent in most years, claiming a winning record in many years. The team did make the state championship game once in 1988.

The boys basketball team has won state titles in 1966, 1968 and 1981.

The school's auditorium and gymnasium also is the site of many of the town's pageants and other community events.

New Brockton High School

I graduated from New Brockton High School in 2002. It did not look like this at the time as the school underwent a massive renovation a few years ago.
