The city of Iquitos, Peru lies directly where the Nanay River, Itaya River and the Amazon River conjoin. With a population of almost 400,000, it's the most populous in the Peruvian Amazon and is considered the "Gateway to the Amazon." These three rivers form an island that is only reachable by air or water. No roads go in or out of the region making Iquitos the largest city in the world that cannot be reached by road.
