"Experience is the best teacher of all. And for that, there are no guarantees that one will become an artist. Only the journey matters." Harry Callahan

My name is Jennifer Simone Macourek. I began this journey called life on November 17, 1988. The daughter of a Caucasian father and African-American mother, I was born and raised in Miami. As someone of mixed race, the roads I've travelled have been doubly widened with a plethora of experiences. See my thoughts about being mixed on my Where I Stand page.

My journey has had amazing stops. In my short 20 years, I've been a dancer, singer, artist, actress, journalist and self-proclaimed chef. I've been to 30 of the 50 states, a few U.S. territories, several parts of Europe and the Carribean. I am constantly trying to further my journey with new experiences. See my plans for the future on my Where I'm Going page.

In the most recent leg of my journey, I find myself at the University of Florida. As a third-year journalism student with a knack for asking questions and meeting people, I can say with much certainty that this portion of my trip is a defining one. My college career has offered me the chance to become a part of several organizations including the National Council of Negro Women and the Florida Student Magazine Association as well as to take on new projects like an ambitious Cancer Philanthropy Week, slated for November 2009.
