I have a very intimate relationship with sports. As my idol, writer Michael Lewis, said in an interview once: "Sports is an arena of desire." He couldn't be more right, because where else is desire more readily displayed?

If I made a good enough effort, I could come to love every sport that exists today. Aside from the two most popular sports in the U.S. today, I also follow tennis, soccer, baseball and a little boxing. I'm still trying to find a love for hockey, golf and auto racing.

Sports as my career

I've been working at the Gainesville Sun helping with page layout while being a stringer for about seven years now. I started out by covering Santa Fe College athletics. Then, I started covering high school sports. Now, I'm mostly covering Gator sports and have mainly been spending my fall seasons doing Gator football features. Here's a story that exemplifies the type of work I'd like to do the rest of my life.

I also work at WRUF AM-850 on UF campus in the Sports department. I'm one of two students who host "Cheap Seats" from 2 to 4 p.m. every Thursday. I did the pregame show for the BCS National Championship game between Florida and Oklahoma a few months ago. That's definitely one of the highlights of my career so far. I've also made live appearances on ESPN1420 Radio based out of Jacksonville to discuss Gator football and the NFL.
