Audrey Hepburn

My idol is Audrey Hepburn. She inspires me to be a better person. I have done acting, but that is not the part of my life I want to emulate her own. Most people just see her as this glamourous movie star, but she was much more than that. Hepburn was a goodwill ambassador for United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). She also had her own children's foundation which, is still in existence today. I love how she could go from something comedic, like Funny Face, to something serious, like The Nun's Story. She never took herself too seriously or thought she was the most beautiful person in the room, and I am quite sure she was at certain times.

This is my favorite quote from her (it is an answer to the question "How do you stay so beautiful?"):

“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”

I have posters of her all over my wall and I hope to be a lot like her in terms of kindness and modesty.

I am also very interested in fashion. I have been designing clothes for about 6 years, so I am passionate about it. I am minoring in costume design and I hope to work on a small line clothing line and maybe have a small boutique later in life.

I draw inspiration from everything from other designers to nature. I prefer to design clothing that looks good, but is also comfortable. I am a busy person, so I need to be able to move in my clothes. I know I am not the only person who does not want to be uncomfortable in tight pants and tight shirt, so that is why I design more loosely fitting clothes.

I am horribly addicted to reading Style Bubble every day. It is a fashion blog written by a girl named Susie (that's her on the right) from London. She knows about fashion from all over the world, so it is a great place to learn more. I am never up to date when it comes to competing with her knowledge because she knows so much. She also spends a lot of time in Hong Kong and some time in New York, so her traveling gives her an upper hand on the rest of us. Susie's style is very eclectic rebel chic. It has a strong London influence, but she accentuates that with high fashion pieces. She is also bold enough to wear puffy sleeves and bright yellow leather pants around town. I hope to take that many risks with my fashion someday as well. Susie's job is also ideal, since she blogs about fashion for a number of different sites and gets paid for it. I do not want to do that full time, but I would not mind getting something like that part time.

Although this summer I am trying to get internships in writing, I am thinking about getting an internship in fashion next summer. If I have that kind of experience in both, I hope I will be able to get a job combining the two, by writing about fashion. Since my major and minor have set me up for that kind of career, I am hoping it works in my advantage.
