After completing my undergraduate degree and studying abroad, I am now pursuing a master's to further my knowledge of journalism. Ideally, this practical and theoretical experience will allow me to pursue my ultimate goal of becoming a foreign correspondent, which I hope to achieve by applying myself fully to relating stories that explain the world in its infinite variety.

University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla. - currently studying for a Master's in Mass Communication
  • I'm focusing my graduate work on journalism and international communication and intend to incorporate these two fields in my thesis.

Flagler College, St. Augustine, Fla. - Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, April 1997
    Majors - English, Psychology
    Minors - French, History

  • Also took beginning and advanced classes in photography, focusing on B&W development and printing
  • Received the English Departmental Award for excellence

Cours de Civilisation Francaise de la Sorbonne, Paris, France - October 1997 to June 1998
Diploma of French Language and Civilization - advanced level with honors

  • I gained fluency in intensive language courses along with French culture courses, which included literature, philosophy and current events.

    Work Experience
General Assignment Reporter, Naples Daily News, Naples, Fla. - June to August 1999
  • As the recipient of a scholarship from the Scripps Foundation, I worked on the city desk in Naples and touched on many beats, covering live events, spot news, crime and doing some in-depth reporting. The stories ranged from a fugitive pig rooting Naples yards to the forced landing of a plane whose pilot was attempting to smuggle five Haitians and 28 kilos of cocaine into Florida from the Bahamas. At the request of the city editor, I worked as a paid reporter for two weeks after the end of my internship. Links to stories are below.

Freelance Writer, St. Augustine Record, St. Augustine, Fla., and Florida Times-Union, Jacksonville, Fla. - April to August 1997

  • Before leaving to study in Paris, I had a semester-long internship at the St. Augustine Record in early 1997 and worked freelance for both the Record and Times-Union that summer.

Here are various articles I wrote during my internship as a general assignment reporter at the Naples Daily News.
  • An in-depth look at the links between migrant farmworker housing and health concerns.
  • On a small plot of the historic Rosemary Cemetery in Naples being encroached on by the construction of a strip mall.
  • On the travails of four Naples teen-agers and their treehouse that didn't meet county building codes.

Senior Graphic Designer, Gargoyle, Flagler College student newspaper - Fall 1995 to Spring 1997
  • Duties included designing all advertisements and overseeing page layouts. I was also involved in editing stories, contributing news and columns, and selling advertisements.
