THE HISTORY OF BALLET

BALLET STARTED OUT FROM THE COURT SPECTACLES OF THE RENAISSANCE AND THE FRENCH BALLET DE COUR. SOCIAL DANCES WERE PERFORMED BY ROYALTY AND ARISTOCRACY AND EXHIBITTED HARMONY WITH MUSIC, SPEECH, VERSE, SONG, PAGEANT, DECOR, AND COSTUME. IN THE 17th CENTURY, THERE WAS A FALL IN DANCE STANDARDS. THEN,LOUIS XIV OF FRANCE ESTABLISHED "THE ACADEMIE ROYALE DE DANSE" IN 1661. IN THE SAME YEAR, THE FIRST COMEDIE-BALLET BY JEAN-BAPTISTE LULLY CAME ABOUT. HERE, DANCES WERE SEPERATED BY SCENES OF A PLAY. LULLY THEN STARTED CREATING OPERA-BALLETS AND A SCHOOL, "ACADEMIE ROYALE DE MUSIQUE", WHERE HE PLANNED ON TRAINING PROFESSIONAL DANCERS FOR THE BALLETS. PIERRE BEAUCHAMPS BECAME THE MASTER OF THE COMPANY AND WITH LULLY, BALLET BECAME A THEATRICAL ART.

THE NEXT CENTURY EXPERIENCED AN ADVANCED FORM OF BALLET. JEAN-GEORGES NOVERRE THEN CAME ABOUT AND PRESENTED "LETTRES SUR LA DANSE ET LES BALLETS" WHERE IT BECAME POPULAR IN EUROPE. IN THIS PRESENTATION, THE DANCERS' MOVEMENTS EXPRESSED CHARACTER AND PROMOTED THE NARRATIVE OF THE BALLET. DURING THE SAME TIME, CHRISTOPH GLUCK, A COMPOSER IN BALLET AND OPERA, OPENED DRAMA TO DANCE. THE ERA WAS ALSO ONE OF THREE "GENRES." BEING STRATIFIED, BALLET FLOURISHED INTO A THEATRICAL FORM FOR OPERA. TODAY, OPERAS STILL OBTAIN BALLET NUMBERS USED FOR INTERLUDES.

THE LATE 18TH AND EARLY 19TH CENTURIES BROUGHT CREATED ALTERATIONS. FRANCE WAS THE CENTER IN BALLET TEACHING. THE DANCING STAGE IN THE EARLY 19TH CENTURY HAD A NEW PURPOSE IN THE ROMANTIC BALLET. POINTEWORK BEGAN (DANCING ON YOUR TOES) AND THE BALLERINA INSTANTLY FORMED INTO AN IDEAL STAGE FIGURE. SCENARIOS FOR BALLETS STARTED TO THEN BE DEVISED. BALLET WAS THEN BEING REACHED AS A BASIC FORM AND IS RECOGNIZED LIKE THAT TODAY.

IN THE 20TH CENTURY, RUSSIA FORMED BALLET ACROSS THE WERSTERN WORLD AND HIT BIG WITH THE HELP OF "BALLETS RUSSES OF SERGEY DIAGHILEV". HE HAD FIVE MAIN CHOREOGRAPHERS: MIKHAIL FOKINE, VASLAV NIJINSKY, LEONIDE MASSINE, BRONISLAVA NIJINSKA, AND GEORGE BALANCHINE. ALL OF THE CHOREOGRAPHERS CONTRIBUTED TO DIAGHILEV'S WORK OF CHANGING THE ART OF BALLET.

WHEN DIAGHILEV DIED, STEPS WERE TAKEN TO CREATE BALLET IN THE WEST. NEW SCHOOLS AND COMPANIES WERE FORMED TO GIVE BALLET A NAME, AS WELL AS A DISCILPLINE. IN 1931 IN GREAT BRITAIN, "THE VIC-WELLS BALLET" BECAME A NATIONAL IMPORTANCE. IN THE UNITED STATES, THE SCHOOL OF AMERICAN BALLET AND THE ATTCAHED NEW YORK CITY BALLET, WHICH WAS FOUND IN 1934 , WAS DIRECTED BY LINCOLN KIRSTEIN WITH CHOREOGRAPHER BALANCHINE. IT BECAME BIG TOO.

AFTER WORLD WAR II, THE ROYAL DANISH BALLET, KIROV BALLET AND THE BOLSHOI BALLET OF LENINGRAD AND MOSCOW, TOURED AND MADE BIG IMPACTS. MANY COUNTRIES TODAY HAVE BALLET COMPANIES AND SCHOOLS. BALLET IS AN ART THAT ENTERTAINS FOR ANY KIND OF AUDIENCE WHO ENJOYS THE ART FORM. BALLET IS VERY DIVERSE NOW THEN IT WAS BEFORE. IT IS VERY MUCH SO DISTGUISHED FROM OTHER FORMS OF DANCE.
