Let's get prepared

My first international trip was to New Zealand. As a 16-year-old, I wasn't fully prepared for my trip. If you're traveling to New Zealand in the Summer, you will arrive in their winter. Getting your seasons right is a must. Pack accordingly. I am a Floridian at heart, so my suitcase didn't match the cold climate of NZ. I went to New Zealand in June, which is summer. For the Kiwis, it was winter. I saw snow for the first time in my life during the summer. My number one piece of advice would definitely be to take pictures that you're in. Coming home with a picture of beautiful scenery doesn't mean as much as seeing yourself in that beautiful scenery. Talk to the locals, they will be more than happy to take your picture for you. snow

Top five travel tips

  1. Pack according to season. New Zealand's seasons are opposite to that of the U.S.
  2. Make sure you're in pictures. Not just pictures of scenery.
  3. Interact with locals. The Kiwis are too friendly to not get to know!
  4. Don't stay in one place for too long if you're trip is limited. There is too much to miss out on.
  5. Live in the moment.

If you leave New Zealand feeling as though you didn't accomplish all that you wanted to, there is only one thing left to do. Go back for round two.
