About Me

Please let me introduce myself. My name is Donald E. Goertz, 21. I'm a native Floridian, born in Plantation and raised in Coral Springs. I am a graduate of Coral Glades High School in Coral Springs. Currently, I am a student at the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications in Gainesville. I'm a junior majoring in Telecommunication with emphasis in production. Here in the college I'm a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Gator National Honor Society, and the Radio Television Digital News Association.

I plan to graduate in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in Telecommunication and hope to attend graduate school at UF. I expect to study either Telecommunication with interests in management and audience research or go to business school to earn an MBA or an MSM. I would like to work for a television network and eventually create a TV production company to work on network programming or live events. I enjoy assembling content, capturing life through a lens and splicing bits and pieces together to make a professional product. My other interests are in economics, entertainment business management, web design, music production, and audience research.

At the University of Florida, I plan to be involved within the College of Journalism and Communications' Multimedia Properties and Creative Services Department. Currently, I am assisting in production tasks for WUFT-TV and WRUF-TV editing content in Final Cut Pro and Avid Media Composer. I plan to learn how to create compelling content for viewers to watch either on televison, web or future platforms. I hope to get involved in WRUF and WUFT as well as work on special projects and events happening locally through a Special Study in Telecommunication course RTV 4930. I hope to continue sharpening my web design skills by challenging myself in an advanced web design course offered through the college such as (MMC 4341L - Advanced Online Media Production). I hope to gain familiarity with the best uses and professional practices for delivering non-textual material (audio, video, animation, graphics and photos) on the Web. Especially because the majority of future media will be available online in some format, having knowledge of web design will be most valuable. I really enjoy hands-on creation of media no matter its platform. I'm excited about future opportunities in media and technology.
