ABOUT ME

Who am I?

Hey there! My name is Brittany Giel. I am a PhD student in the College of Design, Construction, and Planning at the University of Florida. My research focus is in the school of Building Construction where I am studying about the application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and improved technology in the construction industry.

What am I studying?

I have a Bachelor of Design with a major in Interior design and Master of Science in Construction Management. I also completed a minor in Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM) within the graduate school of Business during my doctoral coursework.

This is my third year in the PhD program and I hope to graduate next fall pending the completion of my dissertation. After graduating, I plan to go back into the industry to work for a large commercial construction firm in a virtual design and construction department. Eventually I will pursue an academic career path and possibly even dabble in consulting. However, I really want to gain more industry experience so that I can be a better teacher down the road.

Why am I here?

Technology is a passion of mine. I am always looking to learn new things with the hope that they can be applied to my future research endeavors. I am taking MMC5015 to learn more about web design. I hope at minimum to create a nice website to host my design portfolio, CV, and current research. Additionally, my boss and chair has asked me to re-vamp our research center's website as well. To see the rough work in progress take a look at our current website. As you can see, it could use a facelift!

Feel free to browse this site and learn a little more about my hobbies, travels, and advice for new students.
