Ashley Lauren: Some Thoughts

Personal Profile Picture

Basic Information

My name is Ashley Lauren Shaw. Currently, I am enrolled in the College of Journalism and Communication at the University of Florida. As a graduate student, my field of study is centered around telecommunication. In short, I study media. That's right, I watch television and listen to the radio for school.

It sounds too good to be true, doesn't it?

That is what I thought at first too. It has actually turned out to be more work than one would think. Exploring the practices and procedures of the media industry can be somewhat overwhelming at times. If it wasn't for my extreme interest in the subject matter, I wouldn't be able to get through it.

My field of study influences my daily life, and my over-all perception of the world around me. I consume more media than the average person. Yet I am always left wanting more.

Personal Philosophy:

I laugh often and try to apologize when I should. I have to remind myself daily to let go of what I can not change. I try to take chances, give all of myself and reach for a state of no regrets. My experiences have taught me that life is one thing, short. There is not enough time to be anything but happy.

Having spent the past four years in the College of Journalism and Communication, it is no wonder that I have become engrossed in media. With almost two degrees in Telecommunications, I am both amused and intrigued by television programming.

My favorite television program is Grey's Anatomy. I have followed the characters since the show began. I have even enjoyed the spin-off series Private Practice.

The Best Line

"You know how when you were a little kid and you believed in fairy tales, that fantasy of what your life would be, white dress, prince charming who would carry you away to a castle on a hill. You would lie in bed at night and close your eyes, and you had complete and utter faith. Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Prince Charming, they were so close you could taste them, but eventually you grow up. One day you open your eyes and the fairy tale disappears. Most people turn to the things and people they can trust. But the thing is, it's hard to let go of that fairy tale entirely because almost everyone has that smallest bit of hope, of faith, that one day they will open their eyes, and it will come true."
