Lauren Rizzo: An Autobiography

Me and Marine Me and Mom Me and Dad

How it All Began...

My name is Lauren Marie Rizzo, and I was born November 18, 1988 on a beautiful autumn afternoon in Poughkeepsie, New York. I was the first child born to Stephen and Patricia Rizzo, but that didn’t last long; my brother, Daniel, was born approximately 16 months later. Shortly after Daniel joined the party, the four Rizzos moved to sunny Port Orange, Florida.

I began my learning career at Spruce Creek Elementary. From a very early age, I enjoyed reading and writing. Once I reached the 3rd grade, I was eligible to join the school's band program, and a passion was planted. I continued in the music program through elementary school and into middle school. Once I reached Spruce Creek High School, I had found the Fountain of Opportunity.

While at Spruce Creek, I participated in National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and the International Baccalaureate program. I also dove straight into the world of music by participating in marching, symphonic, and jazz bands as well as taking two years of IB Music Theory. By my senior year, I could play the flute (poorly), the trombone (better), and the euphonium (best). I was also the overall Band Captain for my senior year and was able to accept several awards on behalf of the program. I was also able to learn life lessons, make lifelong friends, and travel to London, England and Atlanta, GA by participating in the Grammy award winning program. You can see their web site here

After graduating from Spruce Creek in May of 2007, I attended the University of Florida in the Spring 2008 term, though I did not participate in the university’s music programs. I changed my major from Health Sciences to English in the Fall of 2008, and it was one of the best decisions of my life. Also, in the Fall of 2008, my life changed dramatically

My younger brother (remember him from earlier?) enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. My family is extremely close, and once Daniel left for basic training at Parris Island in October 2008, our world’s had changed forever. While I’m currently here in Gainesville and my parents remain in Port Orange, he is stationed in San Diego, CA.
