Heather's Happenings A Look at My Life and Interests

Century Tower at UF

I am a full-time, second year Master's student specializing in journalism at the University of Florida. I work on campus in the College of Fine Arts as a public relations graduate assistant and in the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) Dean for Research Office as the science writer, where I am currently writing the 2009 annual report.

I have been at UF for six years now because I also earned my bachelor of arts degree in English here. I graduated a semester early and then moved back home to work full-time while waiting to hear if I was accepted into grad schools. I began the journalism program here in August 2008.

Professional Experience

I already have a lot of experience in public relations, feature writing, and writing for academic audiences from various jobs and internships I have held throughout my academic career. I have had a corporate communications internship at a Fortune 500 company in Orlando, done public relations for Rollins College, and written for an alumni magazine, edited an employee newsletter, and written for the Web in various positions here at UF. For more information about my work experience, please look over my resume.

I love sharing what people have accomplished in my writing, whether that is a new scientific breakthrough by a professor or a successful charity drive organized by employees. My love of feature writing and experience putting together publications fuels my desire to work in magazines when I graduate. I am ready for a change after living in Florida my whole life and I'm considering moving to Chicago.

As I grow to understand life less and less, I learn to love it more and more.
