About Me

My friends and I posing with the Cat in the Hat at Universal Studios during spring break.

If you haven't figured it out yet, my name is Shannon Parrish. I'm a 20-year-old junior at the University of Florida in the College of Journalism and Communications and I was born and raised in the state of Florida. I've lived all over the place, including in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Tallahassee and Gainesville. I think I've moved at least 10 times in my short life.
And so, living the past 20 years as a modern-day nomad, I'm not accustomed to staying in one place for too long, so I decided to study abroad in Berlin, hopefully for the entire spring semester. But you can read more about that on the My Travels page.

I'm a Gator through and through, despite that fact that I've lived in Tallahassee on and off since the sixth grade. Both my parents, my brother, my aunt and uncle and five of my cousins have come through UF, so there was no doubt that I too would become a part of the Gator Nation.

Since coming to UF in the fall of 2007 I've been involved in several wonderful organizations and groups. In my freshmen year I was a Preview Staffer, meaning I helped welcome the 6000+ newly-admitted incoming freshmen and their families to UF. I've also been a resident assisstant, an assisstant producer with WUFT-FM, a writer for BlackListed Magazine and an intern with a new age/alternative/feminist bookstore. The past two years have been some of the funnest times I've ever had. Hopefully the next two will be just as exciting!

The picture on the left was taken during spring break of this year when my friends and I went to Universal Studios. Kenderick (far left), Tabitha (middle), Tony (kneeling) and I (right) always manage to have a great time whether we're chillin' with The Cat in the Hat or dukin' it out in a game of Monopoly. I love those guys! (Picture courtesy of random Universal Studios employee)
