My writing experiences:

Miami Herald Logo As an intern at the Miami Herald this past summer, I got to cover a wide range of stories. I wrote about everything from a man's 100th birthday party, to the American Idol auditions. One particularly memorable day at the Herald was the day I went into a low-income neighborhood to interview residents about a shooting that had taken place there a few weeks earlier. That story was a challenge for me because it simply fell into my hands at a meeting I attended about crime prevention. At the end of the day, I ended up with a story that ran on the front page of the Local and State section of the paper. Though it was intense at times, this story taught me a lot about breaking news reporting.

Alligator Logo I currently write a weekly series for The Independent Florida Alligator. My series, titled "Faces of Gainesville," profiles residents in the Gainesville area, who have interesting stories to tell. With my stories, I aim to write eye-opening pieces about the people who live in Gainesville that the students may not know about. For example, I wrote profile about a homeless person in the area. Here's that story
