The Eastern Caribbean

Magen's Bay

This summer my family and I went on a seven-day cruise in the Eastern Caribbean on Carnival Cruise Lines. It was a ton of fun! I'd never been on a cruise before, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

After leaving port in Miami, we sailed overnight to Nassau, Bahamas. We didn't have a lot of time in Nassau, so we spent the afternoon picking up rum cakes and T-shirts from the local vendors before reboarding the ship for dinner.

Following a full day at sea, we arrived at the U.S. Virgin Islands' port of St. Thomas, where we visited the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. According to our tour guide, Magen's Bay is consistently voted one of the top ten beaches in the world. I can believe it. After enjoying a guided van tour around the island where we took in breathtaking scenic views, we spent a couple of hours on the beach. The water was crystal clear and the perfect temperature.

snorkelingOur third and final stop on the cruise was the island of St. Maarten in the Dutch and French Antilles. While the rest of my family rented a car and explored the island, my wife and I explored underwater shipwrecks and sealife on a snorkeling excursion.

As we sailed back to Miami over the next two days, we took advantage of the all-you-can-eat culinary offerings and relaxed on the Lido deck. The whole trip was fantastic and I'd definitely recommend cruising to anyone who is looking for an exotic adventure. If you decide to go, check out my tips for traveling.
