Growing up in the Sunshine State

Tracy at the Capitol Hi. My name's Tracy. I was born in Orange County, Calif., and I grew up in Clearwater, Fla. I spent my days swimming, boating, playing sports and hanging out with my wonderful family. My mom, dad and two brothers inspire me to live life to the fullest and pursue my dreams.

Life as a Florida Gator

In 2004, I left Clearwater to study journalism at the University of Florida. After four amazing years, I will graduate with highest honors this December. In addition to my studies, I've gained valuable writing experience at student and professional publications in Gainesville like The Independent Florida Alligator and INsite magazine. Also, I've been priveleged to take the Gator Nation abroad. I studied in Rome in the summer of 2006. I lived downtown Rome and marveled at the fusion of ancient ruins and modern culture on my daily walks. I traveled throughout the country, visiting Florence, Milan, Ischia, Pompeii, Naples and Venice. I loved everything about traveling. Finding new people and new cultures became a passion of mine. When I returned from Italy, I continued to write. Over the past four years, I've written stories on a variety of subjects from local politics to sports. But my favorite type of writing is in-depth feature writing in which I can get to know people and tell their stories. I've investigated subjects such as the Hare Krishnas, the underground sport of competitive eating and most recently the benefits of homeopathic medicines.

My Latest Adventure: Summer in D.C.

This past summer, I delved into broadcast media. I interned at Fox 5 WTTG in Washington, D.C. My responsibilities at Fox included organizing each week's programming schedule, answering viewer phone calls and e-mails, and handling the day-to-day needs of my collegues. In addition to my intern duties, I attended business meetings to learn the interworkings of the media business and talked to news anchors whenever possible to hear about their latest stories and their careers. While interning at Fox, I attended classes at Gorgetown University and lived in the Georgetown dorms. The Georgetown experience captivated me, and I fell in love with the vibrance of this city. Find out why I love D.C. at my travel destination page.

Future Plans ...

As my last semester of college comes to a close, the fear and excitement of reality continues to inch toward me. I plan to pursue a master's degree in mass communication or immediately pursue a career in communications. The road ahead is curvy, but with good friends and great family by my side, I look forward to embarking on the journey into adulthood.
