"Listen, kid. A gold medal is a wonderful thing. But if you aren't enough without it, believe me, you'll never be enough with it." -Cool Runnings

My name's Jessica, and I am a third-year journalism student at the University of Florida. Right now I am employed at the J. Wayne Reitz Union, working at the Arts and Crafts Center. I was born and raised in Orlando, but consider Gainesville my second home.

While I hope to pursue a career in journalism after I graduate, I've had all sorts of unrelated jobs in the past few years. I've sold shoes to runners at a marathon (and subsequently listened to the same 20 songs for four days in a row). I've interned in Orlando at a non-profit for people with disabilities, and I've been a camp counselor in Asheville, N.C., at an all-girls camp. I've been a cashier at Macy's over the holidays and discovered that shopping malls destroy Christmas cheer. Now, I spend my days in the union basement helping people make pottery or learn to screenprint.

While I've had lots of interesting jobs and met all sorts of people, I can only imagine that the best is yet to come.
