My Hobbies

This page showcases the highlights of my public relations experience, but these organizations are more than lines on a résumé or articles for a portfolio. They are countless memories made and lessons learned, proving once again that passion can make dreams come true!

Florida Players logo

I serve as director of publicity for Florida Players, UF's student-run theatre company. My job entails writing and submitting press releases, designing show posters and advertisements, making programs, and handling ticket reservations - all on a budget. Speaking of which, Florida Players is the fifth highest-funded organization at UF. This organization has encouraged my love of theatre administration - a field I hope to explore as a future career path! Reserve tickets for our next performance of The Bay at Nice, which opens October 17, at our Web site - http://www.floridaplayers.org

PRSSA logo

Public Relations Student Society of America prepares me for a career in public relations by bringing in prominent professionals who speak on different aspects of the field, including trends, crisis communications, and international public relations. The University of Florida Alpha Chapter was one of the original nine PRSSA chapters, founded in the same year as the national association. I serve on the technical committee, keeping our 49-page Web site updated with member information. Our site can be found at http://grove.ufl.edu/~prssa .

Sacred Heart Health System logo

Over this past summer 2008, I worked as a marketing intern for Sacred Heart Health System in Pensacola, FL. Working in an office on a daily basis, in addition to attending regular staff meetings and hospital-wide events, I learned a lot about corporate branding, communications, and event planning. Some of my responsibilities included writing articles, composing TV scripts, researching trends, designing new programs, organizing advertisement orders, taking photos and supervising the publication of a quarterly bulletin. More details about my internship can be found on my resume .

Sacred Heart Health System has been providing quality health care since 1915 as Northwest Florida's first area hospital. Sacred Heart, a not-for-profit organization, has a network of more than 600 practicing physicians. The main service lines include the Women's Hospital, Children's Hospital, Regional Heart and Vascular Institute, Cancer Center, Regional Stroke Center, Orthopedics Services, Institue for Surgical Weight Loss, and 24-hour Emergency Trauma Center. The main hospital and service centers are located in Pensacola with Sacred Heart on the Emerald Coast located in Destin. Other clinics can be found throughout the area, including Crestview, Panama City, and Baldwin County. Also, a new hospital and office building are under construction in Port St. Joe. Clearly, the system is experiencing a growth spurt. For information about Sacred Heart Health System, visit http://www.sacred-heart.org .

Band Photo

Singing in the Christian band CORBAN has been an amazing part of my faith journey. I also do publicity work for the band, including event planning, advertising, and media communications. CORBAN's other musicians are like a second family to me. We have a blast together! For information about our debut CD album, "Openings," visit our Web site at http://corbanband.com

Dancing Gators Spring 2008 performance photo

Dancin' Gators is a campus group with a wide variety of dances to try every semester. So far, I have done Irish, ballet, swing, tap, and Indian. Each dance routine practices once a week to prepare for our end-of-the-semester performance. This year's performance will be Wednesday, December 10 at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. St. Augustine Catholic Church and Student Center logo

St. Augustine Catholic Student Center helps enrich my faith by providing student activities during the week. I am a reporter for the Take and Read, our student/alumni bulletin published twice a semester. As part of Newman Club, I sing at the Tuesday night student Mass. Last spring, I experienced the Alpha Retreat, which is the weekend-long spiritual retreat held every semester for college students. I went through Ministry Formation to learn how to minister to others through leadership in the church. The Student Center also has special events and activities throughout the year that I love to partake in, including Blast-off Week, Catholic Awareness Week, the Busy Student Retreat, and the Relay for Life team.
