Picture of me

My name is Brian Kelley. I was born on May 18, 1988, in Orange Park, Fla., and I've lived there my whole life (excluding my time in Gainesville, of course). I'm a third-year student majoring in journalism and economics at the University of Florida. As of now, I plan to attend the best law school that will accept me. Beyond that, I have no idea of what I want to do with my life.

My father is a senior software engineer with CSX Technology, and my mother is an elementary school special-education teacher in Clay County. My only brother, Chris, is 23. He attended the University of North Florida and graduated in the fall of 2007. He currently works in production at the First Coast News TV station in Jacksonville.

I get bored easily, but I am passionately devoted to those few things that manage to capture and maintain my attention. The first of these is music. Music is an indescribably huge part of my life. I'm almost always listening to it or playing it. My musical tastes range from soft acoustic music and oldies to the most raucous metal and hardcore. I'm also very interested in politics, and I can get into very passionate, sometimes heated, debates.

I'd like to think that I'm a fairly normal person, with the exception of the fact that I'm a pretty intense perfectionist. I made straight A's all through school. In fact, I didn't get my first B until the Spring 2008 semester, when I took that notoriously hellish course known as reporting (it was actually a B+, which was a personal victory for me).

Outside of school, my life is fairly mundane. I live and die by the success of the Gators football and basketball teams. My mood on game days -- and for a few days afterward, for that matter -- is almost entirely dependent on how those teams perform. I watch TV and play video games regularly. Nothing special there. I also work as a copy editor for The Independent Florida Alligator, where my duties include writing headlines and reading other people's stories for errors in fact, grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Perhaps my most interesting activity is my involvement in a band with one of my roommates. I sing and play guitar in our two-person outfit, which is called Oh Well Okay. We play mostly acoustic indie and folk music. We began writing songs in the summer of 2007, and we have recorded several songs using a Macbook. We have a MySpace page -- which is how you know you've really made it. Please read the previous sentence with a heavy dose of sarcasm.
